Restoration work at Dunedin City Baptist Church

If you are from Dunedin, you will be familiar with the land belonging to Dunedin City Baptist Church (DCBC), on the left of the Southern Motorway as you’ve just come over Lookout Point. DCBC has significantly transformed the lower section of property over the last 5 – 8 years with thriving regenerative plantings along the stream at the bottom. Within these plantings, but not visible from the road, is also a meditative prayer walk.

A Rocha’s Dunedin Local group are exploring a partnership with DCBC to work on this very publicly visible site in a number of ways that bear witness to care for creation, and gospel hope for the healing of creation. The staff of DCBC have described the partnership prospect as “a blessing.”

Two weekends ago, the A Rocha Dunedin Local Group participated in a great planting event at DCBC. There were 28 people from 5 churches, including a big contingent from the Leith Valley Presbyterian Church’s youth group who came as part of the World Vision 40 Hour Challenge.

Selwyn is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand. He currently leads the A Rocha local group in Dunedin. He has degrees in Geography and Divinity and did his doctorate on the nature of human dominion over creation.
