With over 1000 attendees from churches all over the country, it was a privilege to have the opportunity to hold an Eco Church workshop at the New Wine Festival held at Wairarapa College this January.
Anna Baird and Steve Thawley from the Tribe Church in Masterton led the workshop with help from Eco Church Regional Coordinator Mo Morgan. They shared lessons learned from their Eco Church journey, in particular the missional opportunities that have arisen out of partnering with Awatotara Project, a stream restoration project located on their street. The project is a collaboration between local land owners, neighbours, and the church.
Anna notes, “We highlighted that joining Eco Church is not about reaching a certain standard of eco righteousness. It’s about committing to a journey and partnering with others to inspire and learn from each other.” Steve adds, “As we partner with God as he reconciles Creation, it’s fitting to be able to partner with our neighbourhood and Eco Church Aotearoa to accomplish the restoration of our awa and witness to God’s love of Creation.”
